New Year, New Apartment!

I hope this doesn't become a trend, us moving right after the holidays. It is a very stressful time, but I think this place will be worth it! No walls shared with any neighbors, and only one person living below us. There will be a woosh-woosh noise from cars down on the street, but that's a big step up from screaming toddlers and crashing cabinets.
I was waiting to post these pictures in case I jinxed it, but our credits been approved and we're all set to sign the lease papers, so I think it's safe :) I hope some of you will be able to come visit LA and enjoy our new space with us sometime. We think it's setup very well for entertaining friends, much more accommodating than our present situation.
I didn't take the picture below of the exterior of the complex, but you can tell by the bad lighting that the rest are mine, ha ha. The front door opens to two hallways, to the left you have the laundry closet, offices and 2nd bathroom. To the right is the kitchen, living room and master bed/bath. All that's missing is our stuff!

Sorry if the pictures are too small, that's this website resizing them to fit, I messed with the layout a bit to get thm bigger, but if they're still too small just email me for the files. :) Merry Christmas shopping to all!

Picture Explosion!

There has been so many nice things happening lately that I have been sadly neglectful to this little blog. So here's a bunch of pictures to catch up!
The only two to do the sisters with flowers pictures so far are Katie and Lucy. Thanks!! I wish my sisters were not so lazy :( Then I could actually put all the pictures up in their frames. I think these two came out very nice, and they followed my rules! Yay!!! :D

I have little gifts to send as a thank you, I just need to figure out if there's a post office within walking distance.

Also Monday was Dave's birthday, so here are pictures of cake and presents, since Dave said he would rather not have pictures of him opening presents put on here. The cake is chocolate with funfetti frosting, and covered in as many mini M&Ms as it liked to hold. The frosting was too warm when I put it on, but oh well, it tastes just as good!

I made actual food for Dave's birthday dinner, Garlic Lemon Chicken and Herbed Potatoes:

Yum! Until next time :D

Apartment! Photo Challenge!

Hurray! I finally took some pictures of the downstairs of our new place for anyone who hasn't seen it in person and would like to see :)It was not absolutely clean when I took these pictures :( Sorry! I kept putting this off, trying to get more of our apartment decorated and spruced up and ended up procrastinating a little too long.

Here is the new shelf I put in last week, it is above our kitchen table and is happy to hold some of the knick-knacks we've collected. I've been trying to do some water color pictures for the frames on the wall, but I've had a hard time coming up with subjects. So I decided to hunt online for photos, only nothing really fit with what I wanted... so I decided I want pictures of sisters!

If Dave's sisters and my sister's all took pictures of themselves I could fill up the remaining frames hanging under the shelf. Don't you think that would look nice?

If you guys don't mind, here's what I'd like you to do...

Pick a flower you like, either growing outside, in a vase or as a hair accessory, and where a bright color that matches the flower or opposes it (green/teal for red/pink, blue for orange, purple for yellow, etc...) or if you choose a white flower, any bright colored shirt is fine. Put yourself somewhere well lit (outside in the sun, or use lots of lamps and sunlight) and have someone take a picture of you. I would like all the photos to be spring and summer feeling, and smiles are best! No emo please :) And no myspace type photos!!!

Examples:Also though these will print out as 4x6 photos, the actual window of the frames I am using them in is about 3x5, so please try to keep the focus of the picture in the middle, and don't do anything that is too extreme of a close up (just your face and the flower) or too far away (anything that shows below your waist while standing up). Tell whoever is taking your picture to try to keep your face near the center of the shot. Try to only use one or two kinds of flower, not a bouquet, I think simple is best.

The white area is the "safe" zone, the red edges will either be cut off (literally) or won't show within the window space:
If I could get these by next Tuesday, that would be really awesome!! Then I can have the apartment looking really nice before I have to go back to work :)

You can email the pictures to me at prismageek@gmail.com

If you have any questions, email or call me :)
I will send everyone a thank you present, I promise!
Moms, Dads, Sisters, Boyfriends and Friends are allowed to help out!

Apartment Upgrades!

So with all the time I have to spend at home recently, I've been trying to convert the new apartment into something better fitted to us. Here is what I've done so far...

The kitchen is very short on counter space, so I decided to add a shelf in the empty space above the sink. I also decided to try a smaller dish drainer that could fit into the sink instead of taking up needed counter space. To cut down on the amount of water bottles we buy and then have to recycle, I decided to try out one of the Brita faucet filters, and am enjoying it very much so far :)

We are also having to deal with very limited storage space in the bathroom, so I decided to get a floating cabinet to hang on the wall. I think I will have to do some more with the bathroom storage problem though.

I'm going to hop around the internet looking for more ideas to spruce this place up :) Hopefully I will have made it very comfy before I have to run back to work.

London Town

I decided to put up the most interesting of my London trip photos (and then steal some others from my friend who went as well). I told myself I wouldn't just take pictures of buildings, and that I would try to make all the photos interesting... but that never works and I always take very little time out of the day to take pictures anyway... so sorry there's so few!

But I suppose if you really wanted to see pictures of the landmarks of London you shouldn't be looking for them in my terribly amateurish photos anyway :)

This is Jen and me at King's Cross, making our way to the Hogwart's Express, haha.

And this is a picture Jen took of me in Hatchard's, the oldest book store in London. It's a wonderful place with many stories, all filled with books! I had a great time just wandering around, before I picked up the book I'm reading there. Though the book's heroine is about to do something incredibly stupid, so I had to put it aside for a bit.

Here is Lisa (our wonderful hostess!) and I wandering the chocolate counters in Harrods, the most wonderful place! I could love Harrods just for the chocolate shop, it looks like something out of a Christmas movie! Everything wonderfully lit and glittering!

The of course, Buckingham Palace and Parliament (Big Ben!)

And here's a dork on the Piccadilly line of the tube, so the trip must be over :)

Why I did this...

In the new world, where information is available instantly via the internet, and where everyone is suddenly googling your name to just "see" what comes up for their entertainment, I thought it might be a good idea to secure my own name on blogger; just in case :)

This is just a blog about what's going on with me, for any interested friends or family that might be wandering the net. And to amuse myself while I'm enjoying my time off of work for the next couple months.

And now my fish sticks and tater tots are ready, see ya :)
